Questions and answers

Are both documents kept private?

Yes. Both PDFs are opened and compared in your browser, and neither is uploaded.

What kinds of changes does it find?

Words that were added or removed, page by page, and a visual overlay that highlights areas that look different, such as images or layout. You can also view the pages side by side.

How are the pages matched?

Page 1 is compared with page 1, page 2 with page 2, and so on. If a page was added or removed, the pages after it shift and may show many changes.

Can it compare scanned PDFs?

The text comparison needs selectable text, which scans don’t have. The visual overlay still shows where scanned pages differ.

Does it notice formatting changes?

The text comparison only looks at the words, so changes in font, color or styling show up only in the visual overlay.

Is Compare PDF free?

It’s a Practice tool, and it’s free to use during early access.
