Terms of use

Draft: this text has not yet been reviewed by a lawyer and may change before LeafLock PDF launches.

These terms of use (“Terms”) apply to your use of leaflockpdf.com and the LeafLock PDF tools (the “Service”). The Service is operated by [TO CONFIRM: legal entity name], [TO CONFIRM: registered address] (“LeafLock PDF”, “we”, “us”).

By using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the Service.

1. The Service

LeafLock PDF provides tools for working with PDF files and images. The tools run in your web browser and process files on your device. Your files are not uploaded to us. How we handle personal data is described in the Privacy policy.

You don’t need an account to use the Service. Some tools are marked Pro or Practice; see section 5.

The Business edition, a self-hosted copy of the Service for organizations, is licensed under a separate agreement. [TO CONFIRM: Business edition licence terms]

2. Your files and your responsibilities

You are responsible for the files you process with the Service and for what you do with the results. In particular:

We have no access to your files and do not review, store or take responsibility for their content.

3. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

We may block access to the Service from sources that break these rules.

4. Our content

The Service, including its code, design, text and the LeafLock PDF name and logo, belongs to us or our licensors and is protected by intellectual property laws. These Terms give you a personal, non-exclusive right to use the Service as offered. They don’t transfer any ownership to you.

Results you create with the tools are yours, subject to the rights of anyone else in the files you processed.

Some parts of the Service use open-source software under its own licence terms, listed with the required notices on the Open-source licenses page.

5. Paid plans

Early access

Tools marked Pro or Practice are currently in early access and free to use. We may end early access and start charging for them. We’ll announce this on the site before it happens. Nobody will be charged for early access, and you won’t be enrolled in a paid plan without choosing one.

Billing

When paid plans launch, they will be sold by Dodo Payments (for customers in India) or Paddle (for customers everywhere else), each acting as the merchant of record for the purchases it handles. The payment provider is the seller of the plan, handles payment, invoicing, sales tax and VAT, and its own terms of sale apply to your purchase. These Terms continue to apply to your use of the Service.

Prices are shown clearly before you buy. Plans available at launch are expected to be monthly, yearly, and a limited founding ten-year Pro plan ($120 once) for early supporters. [TO CONFIRM: number of founding ten-year plans offered]

Renewal and cancellation

Refunds

[TO CONFIRM: refund policy, aligned with the merchant of record’s terms and consumer law, including the EU 14-day withdrawal right for digital services]

Price changes

We may change prices for future purchases. If the price of your existing subscription changes, we’ll tell you in advance, and the new price will apply only from your next renewal after the notice. You can cancel before then.

6. Availability and changes to the Service

We work to keep the Service available and working well, but we don’t guarantee that it will always be available, uninterrupted or free of errors. We may change, add or remove tools and features at any time. If we remove a Pro feature that is a significant part of a paid plan, we’ll tell you and [TO CONFIRM: remedy, e.g. a pro-rata refund].

7. The Service is provided “as is”

To the extent permitted by law, the Service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement. We don’t warrant that results will be accurate, complete or suitable for your purpose.

Nothing in these Terms excludes rights you have as a consumer that cannot be excluded by contract under the law that applies to you.

8. Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law:

These limits don’t apply to liability that cannot be limited by law, such as liability for fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by negligence.

9. Ending your use

You can stop using the Service at any time. If you have a paid plan, cancel it as described in section 5.

We may suspend or end your access to the Service if you seriously or repeatedly break these Terms. If we end a paid plan for a reason other than your breach, [TO CONFIRM: remedy, e.g. a pro-rata refund].

Sections 2, 4, 7, 8, 10 and 11 continue to apply after your use ends.

10. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of [TO CONFIRM: India, state]. Disputes will be subject to the courts of [TO CONFIRM: city and state], unless the law that applies to you as a consumer gives you the right to bring proceedings in your own country.

Before starting formal proceedings, please contact us so we can try to resolve the issue informally.
